Alexander Sasse

  Medical School 1990-1996 at the University of Bonn / Germany. Started Training at the University Hospital of Aachen in 1996. MD (1994-2000) at the University of Bonn on Nitric Oxide influence on vascular smooth muscle cells. Research Fellowship 2000/2001 at the University of Düsseldorf in Gene Therapy. Completed clinical training at the University Hospital of Aachen in 2003. Ongoing research into cardiac stem cell therapy. Cardiologist since 2004.              

Came to Wellington Hospital 2007 as Consultant Cardiologist. Further established cardiac imaging with echo, MRI (2010) and recently cardiac CT – Director of cardiac Imaging. Starting in 2008 initially PFO, 2010 ASD and 2013 LAA closure structural heart disease interventional program. Also recently established TAVI service at Wellington Hospital. 2012 Adj. Professor School of Biological Sciences Victoria University Wellington. Head of Department Cardiology since 2017. Author of 30+ original publications and 100+ abstract submissions.      

Extracurricular activities include road cycling, windsurfing, photography and motorcycles.
